Shortly before the death of local scientist, educator, former Member of Parliament, and human rights icon Dr. Howard D. McCurdy, he invited longtime friend George Elliott Clarke to both complete and edit the autobiography he had been writing. The resulting work is Black Activist, Black Scientist, Black Icon Book Launch: The Autobiography of Howard D. McCurdy with George Elliott Clarke. Join us for the launch of this spectacular new memoir. We are blessed to host George Elliott Clarke, Canadian poet, playwright, and literary critic who served as the Poet Laureate of Toronto from 2012 to 2015 and as the 2016–2017 and the Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate. We are also humbled to be joined by Brenda Lee Wright McCurdy, former Laboratory Director for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Detroit and jazz, reggae, and R&B musician, also the widow of Dr. Howard McCurdy. This event will occur in the Performance Hall at the University of Windsor’s School of Creative Arts, Armouries Building, downtown Windsor. The event is from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Books by our talented authors will be for sale and available for signings in the Concourse before and after the event.
